Auto-Renewing Domain Names
For your convenience, and in order to ensure uninterrupted service, our policy is to attempt to auto-renew domain name registration each year at the current rate within approximately 30 days prior to their expiration.
The current rate for domain name renewal is typically around $25 per year.
Before auto-renewing a domain we will always try to contact the site owner (initially via email) to confirm that they want to keep their domain name.
Upon site owner confirmation that they want to retain the domain name we will attempt to renew the domain using any existing payment information we may have.
If for some reason we are unable to renew a domain we will contact the site owner via phone call to update payment information or for further instructions.
What Happens If My Domain Name Expires?
If for any reason a domain name is not renewed then ownership of the domain name expires, and the domain name ends up on the open market where anyone else can register it. If a domain name expires then any websites or email using that domain will no longer work.
To avoid this type of situation our policy is to attempt to auto-renew domains each year for uninterrupted service.
What if my domain name expires, then I decide to try to renew it? In this case getting ‘ownership’ of the domain name is subject to availability. Any gap in domain registration also causes a gap in website and email service. The gap in service may be extended a few extra days due to updating server configurations (needing to be re-pointed back to the website).
What About My Website Hosting Plan?
Website hosting plans are month-to-month (no annual commitment), so this will not affect your website or website hosting unless the domain name pointing to your website is not renewed (allowed to expire).
If the domain name is the primary domain used for your website and it is allowed to expire then we will contact you via phone call for further instructions on what your intent is for your domain name and your website (you can use a different domain name, or you may choose to cancel your Website Hosting Plan).
What You Need To Do
To renew your domain name simply reply to the ‘response required: domain renewal required‘ email that we send out, with the word “renew” in the subject line or within the body text of the reply, and we will renew your domain name registration for another year.
To allow your domain name to expire simply reply to the ‘response required: domain renewal required‘ email that we send out, with the word “expire” in the subject line or within the body text of the reply, and we will contact you via phone call for further instructions on what your intent is for your domain name and your website.
If We Don’t Hear From You
If we don’t receive a reply to the ‘response required: domain renewal required‘ email that we send out we’ll give you a call sometime in the following few business days.
